As much a parable as a realistic story the boy in the striped pyjamas is principally concerned with telling its tale leaving the subtleties of how outsize evil can co exist with domestic. Bruno is thrilled to have a friend his own age yet never fully grasps why shmuel can t play at his house or why bruno can t play with the other children in striped pajamas. This was a powerful story and a brilliant book. Shmuel and bruno begin to meet every day. Shmuel wears the striped pajamas and lives on the other side of the fence.
Parents need to know that even though the main character in this book is 9 years old this book is a better fit for kids in late middle school and up. It is completely told through the eyes of a young boy and i think the author has done this brilliantly. The author john boyne did a masterful job of depicting the setting in such vivid detail and exposing the events in a manner that i felt a constant emotional pull as the story unfolded and impending doom lingered on the horizon. Bruno is nine years old and he s not happy.
He runs a big place with a huge wire fence and a lot of people men and boys on the other side. It is a fable told through the voice of a child but it is not for children and this is not just any child.
